Description
Payers are important stakeholders for health information exchanges (HIEs). They fund HIE operations, design incentives for providers, and increasingly partner with community-based organizations to address health-related social needs. In the Great Lakes State, Michigan Multipayer Initiatives has created a round table that convenes payers in the state to prioritize and align HIE efforts. The group has produced comparative payer policy tables of social determinants of health (SDOH) and HIE incentives for providers, achieved partner agreement on a joint approach for SDOH HIE data, and worked to decrease the administrative burden on providers. This session will share best practices and assist other states and regions in initiating and growing payer alignment to propel HIE success, social and health care integration, and achieving greater value.
Session Objectives
1. Explain how voluntary payer alignment began and is maintained and provide a suite of resources for those who wish to begin or grow alignment efforts
2. Detail Michigan's progress on informing HIE priorities
3. Provide examples of deliverables that can be replicated in your state or region
