Presentation Title
TEFCA Workshop: QHINS Make the Case
Description
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has led an extensive multi-year, public-private process alongside its Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCE), The Sequoia Project, to implement TEFCA, which was envisioned by the 21st Century Cures Act to support nationwide interoperability through a “network of networks” approach. TEFCA has since become operational with the designation of seven Qualified Health Information Networks (QHINs) that are meant to serve as central connection points within the TEFCA ecosystem and securely share data. While progress has been made, there are still many unknowns. There is a need for more information about what participation for HIEs and other health data sharing organizations means regarding governance, oversight, and changing business models.

This informative session will be moderated by Lisa Bari, CEO of Civitas Networks for Health and feature representatives from the ONC and RCE who will share brief updates on the current state of play for TEFCA including successes, lessons learned, and upcoming efforts to continue progress. Also present, will be leaders from the designated QHINs who will briefly speak to their governance models and highlight unique and value-added features of their respective networks. Following this, audience members will have the opportunity to interact with each QHIN representative and participate in roundtable discussions on their offerings and perspectives on the future of the TEFCA framework and their network.
