Name
Modernizing Demographic Data Standards to Advance Health Equity
Session Type
Breakout Session
Description

To address health disparities, healthcare organizations must collect accurate and complete demographic data. Using a stakeholder-driven approach, America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), Health Level Seven International (HL7®), and Civitas Networks for Health partnered on a multi-year, multi-phased project to improve demographic data standards, test their effectiveness, and are currently working to develop HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) standards to effectively share the data collected among trusted parties.

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:

Attendees will recognize how improved demographic data can help organizations identify and address health disparities and build a culture of trust within the healthcare system and the populations they serve.
2) describe the mixed-method, evidence-based, stakeholder-driven process used to improve demographic data standards, including how diverse and representative groups helped refine standards.
3) compare the recommended demographic data standards with currently available standards and describe associated actions entities can take to align demographic data standards across the healthcare ecosystem.
