This presentation highlights the essential role of robust participation in HIE/HDUs and how to gain stakeholder buy-in to ensure sustainability and a thriving health data-sharing ecosystem. Innsena, along with three state HIEs, will reveal strategies for engaging key stakeholders, including Tribes, state agencies, hospital associations, Federally Qualified Health Centers, legislators, hospitals and patients. Their insights will demonstrate how strong collaboration supports statewide initiatives and programs that advance patient and population health.

By the end of the session, attendees will leave with a ideas for engaging stakeholders, broader messaging techniques, and how to position their HIE/HDU projects and initiatives for long-term success. Objectives include:
1) Identify Key Strategies for Stakeholder Engagement in HIE/HDUs: Attendees will learn practical approaches to build trust and foster participation with key stakeholders. Presenters will showcase successful engagement models used, demonstrating how tailored outreach, clear value propositions, and collaboration can drive adoption and long-term sustainability.
2) Develop Effective Messaging and Communication Techniques: Attendees will explore how to craft compelling messaging that resonates with diverse stakeholder groups. Through case studies from Alaska, Connecticut, and West Virginia, the session will highlight communication strategies that address stakeholder concerns, demonstrate HIE/HDU benefits, and encourage active participation. Examples of successful messaging campaigns and patient engagement initiatives will provide attendees with actionable insights to enhance their own outreach efforts.
3) Apply Value-Driven Approaches to Strengthen HIE/HDU Sustainability: Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to deliver value to stakeholders and ensure ongoing participation and support. Real-world examples will illustrate how demonstrating measurable benefits—such as improved patient care coordination, cost savings, and enhanced provider workflows—has led to increased buy-in. The session will provide examples for implementing these value-driven strategies to maximize the impact of HIE/HDUs on statewide health initiatives.
