This session explores a holistic vision of health and wellness in Indian Country. By examining the role of sovereignty, self-determination, and the unique trajectory of Tribal public health systems, the session explores how Tribal Nations build their health infrastructure in alignment with their values and traditions. Focus will be given to how Tribal Nations engage with modern systems, including Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), and other digital health tools while upholding traditional knowledge and asserting sovereignty.
We will examine the evolving role of scientific research and digital health tools—like Health Information Exchanges (HIEs)—and how these systems and partnerships with non-tribal organizations can respect Tribal data sovereignty, support culturally informed health outcomes, and integrate with traditional healing models. We will hear from panelists how federal funding can empower tribal health if designated the right way. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the vital relationship between Indigenous knowledge and modern public health, and how honoring both can lead to thriving, sovereign Tribal Nations.
2). Practical insights into the role of trust, empathy, and collaboration in cross-sector partnerships.
3). Awareness of the necessary components for meaningful engagement with Tribal communities, including honoring existing knowledge, involving lived experience in governance, and creating with—not for—Tribes.
